(2008), p. 53 〕 == Biography == After attending high school in Amsterdam, he enrolled at Delft University of Technology in 1919 and received his MSc degree in electrical engineering in 1924. Den Hartog received his PhD in 1929 at the University of Pittsburgh where he became an authority in problems on mechanics and vibration and joined the faculty at MIT in 1945 where he taught dynamics and strength of materials. Prior to his MIT appointment he taught at Harvard and served in the US Navy. He was a prolific author of texts in his fields. Den Hartog's former doctoral students include Shakespearean actor and systems/controls maestro Roger Gans.
